Green Things Fun: A Volunteer Outing!

Sometimes farmers just need to a pause from working the land and take a moment to enjoy this beautiful planet we like to call earth. As Michigan Farmers, we thought it important to visit the Great Lake named after our Great State, Lake Michigan, before the summers end.  Upon the request of some of our more consistent volunteers/friends we threw together an impromptu volunteer appreciation day in Saugatuck MI. The outing was a rejuvinating, beautiful, and a great bonding experience for us all. Special thanks to Jill's grandparents Dick and Alice for hosting and cooking a great dinner! Enjoy the pictures and next time we will be sure to advertise ahead of time!

Sancho loving the view!

Here volunteers Justing L and Nick W are strengthening

their harvesting muscles by flying a 4.9 meter kites Tandem.

Heres the group enjoying a local harvest from the west side of the state!

Recent Happenings

In other news, we will be building another hoop house at Tilian July 2ndIt is part of Selma Cafe's 20 hoops in 20 days and going to be the first mobile hoop that Selma has built (on skids so we can move it each season for rotational plantings)! If you would like to volunteer to help build this or any of the other hoops in the upcoming weeks please visit this link. Thanks!

Here's what is in the share this week:

Bok Choy, Swiss Chard, Kale, Head Lettuces, Peas, Turnips, Kohlrabi (tastes like tender broccoli stems), Green Onions, and another Bag O' Herbs likely to feature Parsley as well this week.

Wondering how to eat turnips? This is a great recipe for cooking them on the grill. We like them raw or like chopping them up greens and all and sauteed.
